Abstract

The book Turismo Rural: Experiencias y Desafíos en Iberoamérica [Rural Tourism: Experiences and Challenges in Ibero-America] allows the reader to approach the phenomenon of rural tourism through the studies carried out by experts from multi-disciplinary and multi-regional points of view. Juan Pulido Fernández, in the book’s foreword, states that rural tourism has had an extraordinary growth during the last two decades. This is due to the changes in interests of current tourists, who demand tranquility, contact with diverse cultures, and are interested in the environment. On the other hand, this tourist market attains great importance currently because it can generate wealth and employment in rural zones and regions with economic problems. In view of this panorama, the surge of rural tourism seems to be a natural answer for those sectors in society that wish to escape the alienation of the modern world.
